A 27-year-old Eritrean who resides at the Marsa Open Centre in Malta was given a a six-year-jail term suspended for two years after pleading guilty to slightly injuring two police officers late on Friday.

The Marsa Open Centre is one of the two main open centres in Malta hosting asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants granted humanitarian protection  after their release from the detention centres.

The Times of Malta reports that Teame Gebremihret Tesfamaryam from Eritrea was thrown out of a bar in Rabat after he became noisy and the owner called the police.

After the incident police took him to the nearest police station in Rabat, a village just outside Malta, where he became aggressive.

According to the newspaper the Eritrean man became aggressive and started to attacked and resist two police men during his arrest.
