Eritrea: Bahti Meskerem Celebrated in Europe’s Far North

Oslo

Eritrean hero Hamid Edris Awate triggered the first bullet in the eve of the 1st September, 1961 against successive colonizers and oppressors.

Following this, it took the people of Eritrea a thirty year long bloody war to achieve its independence in the 24th of May, 1991.

However, the war did not end up without its destructive consequences. Eritrean people suffered a lot and experienced tough life; family members were separated and the infrastructures got collapsed, and an unimaginable overall destruction of the nation happened.

Thus, Eritrean people back home and the Diasporas have a special memory in their minds to reflect the second to none history of the past thirty years long revolutionary struggle. Every celebration on behalf of this special occasion has a unique meaning and context to the people of Eritrea. In this context we would like to report how the Eritrean community in Europe’s far north has celebrated the event.

Eritreans living in Oslo (Norway) celebrated this occasion on the 29th of August, 2009 like many other people from Eritrea did world wide.

The celebration was opened by the chair person Mr Yemane Haile. In his opening, Mr Yemane Haile emphasized the importance of the special occasion Bahti Meskerem and addressed the participants of the day concluding his statement through the nation’s popular closing slogan: ‘’Awet Nehafash’’.

Besides, Madam Mislal, the representative of the Eritrean Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries, also transmitted her message in a similar fashion.

The invited singer of that special night Mr Isaak Okbay was highly appreciated for his performance and good deeds. He contributed the money for his performance to parents of those who sacrificed their lives during the historical struggle.

I’m writing in reference to (sbhat) comments who wrote about the site being biased. We need to uplift the country and speak on the positive things that are occurring. Eritrea is a self contempt country, and you are not helping at all.

    Dear Readers,

If all are going to write only the negative side then it is the Eritrean people that lose all. We know that, this time there are more websites than the websites that tries to write positive outcomes or achievements of Eritreans.

Let me tell you a true story that happened in Norway. A very talented and highly influential and distinguished Norwegian man used to work against his country by collaborating with the then Soviet Union. One day his wife exposed him and he was jailed. The Norwegian authorities and the people of Norway were very astonished by his deeds and want to know why he did it. They knew that he can get much better payment if he had worked for the west, against the then the Soviets. He was asked why he did that?
He replied I did that as a matter of fairness. He said that he wants this world to be lead by two super powers than one super power. The reason is; if it exist only one super power in this world then this world is going to fall in troubles. To make this world safe the best is to have two super powers. The Norwegians felt sympathy with his explanation and they believed that he did what he did not for the sake of money but for what his principle guided him to do.

After some years elapsed the Soviet union fallen and the world remained with one super power. And we are witnessing the trouble this world is facing this time. The main reason for the problems challenging this world this time is due to existing only one super power.

In conclusion, it is better for us Eritreans not let all our affairs fall to one block, the opposition groups. The best is we to keep the balance. We need all sorts of websites. This will keep us in fair position to judge who is right and who is wrong.

We have to understand that if all of us stand with the opposition only then there is not going the job to be done in the daily life in Eritrea. Are we asking for justice, democracy and liberty, and then we have more than 13 opposition groups and more than dozens of websites. There is no scarcity of exposing what it has to be exposed when it comes to the exposition of facts.

Apart from those who are on daily bases with very sophisticated web designs doing the opposition work, there has to be given chance for the sake of fairness and balance for those who support the Eritrean government. Denying their right for the supporters of the Eritrean government is the number one violation of human right and fairness.

Hey, Some Eritrean opposition trying to oppose at the expense of Eritrean interest. Is an opposition worthy an opposition if they can not differentiate between national interest and government interest.

Can we call opposition if they do not have the depth to separate Government (PFDJ) from Eritrea. Now we are observing some opposition websites from old school like awate failed to work for the interest of Eritrea. In their language supporting Eritrea and its people is supporting PFDJ. We all know the editorial Ghedi (I do not want to talk about his sexuality) or Johar (his new name) went to Addis Ababa and interview Meles few years back. In his interview he did not mention why the Eritreans were deported from Ethiopia and he did not even mention about demarcation. In his infected, narrow opinion the deported Eritreans were PFDJ and Badme is PFDJ………this are the opposition we have. Their approach is negative and will not helping the Eritrean people in their struggle for change (peacefull change). AWATE is graduated from the old school of politics and should expect even worse
