Ambassador Andebrhan Welde Giorgis is a Senior Expert in the Peace and Security Section. Andebrhan has extensive experience (with over 20 senior diplomatic appointments and senior positions) as a diplomat, international negotiator, political consultant and academic with particular expertise in peace and security issues in the Horn of Africa. He is also Adjunct Professor of Diplomacy & African Politics at Vesalius College, Free University of Brussels (VUB).
From 1995 to 2006 Andebrhan served as Ambassador/Permanent Representative to, inter alia, the IMO, UNESCO, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain and the BeNeLux. From 2000 to 2002, he was the Commissioner for Coordination with the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia & Eritrea (UNMEE). Recently, Andebrhan worked as Senior Advisor for the Africa Programme of the International Crisis Group and advised the European Commission for the Preparation of an EU Strategy for the Horn of Africa.
He holds a BSc and MBA in Economics & Management from the Univesity of Colorado and conducted doctoral studies at Harvard University. Global Governance Institute
