U.N. Buys Wheat for Sudan and Ethiopia

HAMBURG, Sept 10 - A United Nations aid agency has purchased about 24,000 tonnes of wheat in a tender for donation to Sudan and Ethiopia, European traders said on Thursday.

It was said to be of Black Sea origin, probably from Ukraine, for shipment in September and October. Price was thought to be about $165.49 a tonne fob.

Some 20,000 tonnes was for Ethiopia and 4,000 tonnes for Sudan.

The U.N. has a range of food aid programmes under way in both countries. (Reporting by Michael Hogan; editing by James Jukwey) Source: (Reuters)
