Under the successful Eritrean Government Programme for resettling locals from the Gash Barka and Debub region back into their villages, most of the displaced Eritreans returned to their homes. The process of helping the people from the border areas in Eritrea to get back to their normal lives has been finalised. Most of Eritreans displaced due to the war with Ethiopia returned to their homes and villages. According to a report by IDMC (International Displacement Monitoring Centre) the efforts stepped up were fruitful although the tensions with Ethiopia remain. Read the IDMC Eritrea Report 2009.
