The EriAm Sisters
The first Eritreans to have ever reached the semifinals of one of America’s biggest talent shows are 11, 13 and 15 years old. That tells us a lot about tomorrow and to whom the future of Eritrea belongs.
The girls are beginning their musical career in a similar age as The Jackson Five, Destiny’s Child and other stars. In world musics there are slow songs, fast songs and there are songs with a lot of emotions and feelings which can be very tricky to sing.
The EriAm Sisters have chosen to sing the song “There Can Be Miracles” from the film soundtrack Prince of Egypt. After a shaky start and some missing harmony notes the EriAm Sisters got right back on track and finished with a very good performance. Haben (11), Salina (13) and Lianda (15) proved they can perform all sorts of different music styles during the second semifinal round of America’s Got Talent” which took place on Tuesday night.
British former newspaper editor is now America’s Got Talent judge Pierce Morgan said,
“I thought it was a very shaky start and you were pretty flat in the first and third verse of the song […] what happened next was you got back your confidence and when you got your confidence then it became a really good performance.”
The sisters were amongst 10 contestants competing for the finals with acts such as, Recycled Percussion, Lawrence Beaman, Erik & Rickie, Jeffrey Ou, Hairo Torres, Mario & Jenny, Drew Stevyns, Footworkingz and Barbara Padilla. The top 5 out of the 10 acts would go through to the finals.
During the second semifinal result show on Wednesday night the three sisters did not get the necessary votes to make it through to the finals and dropped out of the competition. However, the EriAm Sisters made us all very proud knowing that we have new stars shining on Eritrea’s sky.
In fact they have come a long way and delivered an outstanding performance taking into account their age and the pressure associated with the entertainment business. Haben, Salina, Lianda and many other young Eritreans around the world are the future and hope of Eritrea.
