ERITREA were the first team to secure a quarter-final slot at the on-going Cecafa Youth Championship in Sudan after Thursday’s shock 3-1 win over defending champions Burundi.
The win also complicated Rwanda’s qualification chances since Michael Weiss’s Junior Wasps must now avoid defeat against Burundi when the two sides face-off on Monday. Eritrea’s win took them atop Group C with four points. Rwanda, who drew their opening tie against Eritrea are second with one point. Burundi are still chasing for their first Cecafa points.
By press time, Group B leaders, Uganda’s Hippos, were gunning for their second win at the championship against Kenya. Uganda got off to a blistering start after a convincing 4-0 win over Ethiopia. Zanzibar, who also registered a 3-1 win over Kenya were scheduled to play Ethiopia.
