Tadese & Bekele
The Olympic Stadium in Berlin tonight witnessed a showdown which was an outstanding performance by Zersenay Tadese, who proved once again that Eritreans are to be taken serious in the men’s 10,000 metre race.
Tadese finished second in 26:50.12 after a strong fight making Eritrea proud by capturing the silver medal in the “battle of the giants”. The Eritrean is the season’s best and second fastest in the world.
Amongst thirty one athletes Tadese lead the field most of the time being chased by a group of Ethiopian and Kenyan runners. After 8,000 metres Tadese and Bekele of Ethiopia fought alone for the gold medal leaving the entire field behind.
It was an Eritrean – Ethiopian race with millions of spectators watching around the globe. In a dramatic finish Bekele of Ethiopia overtook Tadese increasing his pace to a sprint and finishing first with a new championship record (26:46.31). The third place went to Moses Ndiema Masai of Kenya (25:57.94).
The second best Eritrean was Kidane Tadese, who finished ninth followed by Teklemariam Mehin who completed the race taking the twelfth position. As the commentator put it, “Zersenay Tadese is a formidable opponent”. Once again he has placed Eritrea into the spot light of international sports. Eritreans around the world were following the breath taking race with their heart beating to every step Zersenay Tadese made.

Outstanding performance. Keep up the good work!!
Congrats to all the ERITREAN ATLETS, specially to Zersenay, but please consider also all the other Atlets particularly those at the begining, if we wont to see Eritrean’s Flug more & more in several disciplines.
THANKS AGAIN AND KEEP US IN GOLD DREAMS FOR THE NEXT EVENT.
Eritrea again shows its great skill of coming out, although the Athletes do not have the high consideration the Kenians and Ethiopians have. Sure what Tadesse did tonight at the Olympic Stadium of Berlin have given proof that Eritrea will keep on the track of African Athlete of the past and of the future.
Tadesse had shown a great tatctic improvement, and with accellerations in the Six and seven Thousands Meter gave no chance to many quoted runners. Bekele who acted like a fox knew he could beat Tadesse only in the last 300 MT. this is why he always stood behind never trying to take the lead of the Race. If there is a moral winner I believe that was Tadesse but a Silver Medal in a Compentition with such a great Crowd of good Runners, Eritrea can be very Proud of his Champion.
What was beautifull at the End was when the Athletes of Ethiopia and Eritrea embracced each other, well this is something I would one day see done by both the Leaders of Eritrea and Ethiopia.
I hope Sport can be of a Lesson to bring Peace and Harmony between Two People who share the same Religion, Culture of Food and Written Language.
As they said, Sport is for health, productivity and friendship. this two athletes even though they compete to the last munite when all was done they turned around and embracced each other. I believe we all can do that. We are one at heart and we can still do that. We should not let other get in the middle of us. Congraturlation my Eritrean brother Zersenay. Keep the love going. Thanks for your hard work and dedication and Keep it going and enjoy it. Love To all.
VIVA ERITREA!
