AU says single African currency in 2021

According to the Economic Affairs Commissioner of the African Union, the African continent might have a single currency by no later then 2021. The AU expects that economic development and investment in Africa will be stimulated by lower barriers of entry to markets as a result of the monetary union. A major role in reaching this target should play the establishment of an African Central Bank with the European Central bank serving as a role model
